The Business & Tourism Society is your access to being part of the student body of the Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management programs and will enable you to create meaningful memories and provide useful career related experience.
By organizing student and community events that are fun and beneficial, the Business and Tourism Society members gain hands on experience in event planning, marketing and promotion, management and even finance.
Not only that, this year the society is focused on providing you with opportunities to make friends and make the most out of your university experience by interacting with your classmates on an entirely new social level. From pub meetings, to downtown excursions, and the annual MSVU Business and Tourism Conference and Dinner, Business and Tourism students are never left out of the true university experience.

Mount Saint Vincent University Business and Tourism Society
Constitution
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Mount Saint Vincent University Business and Tourism Society.
Article II: Objectives
The purpose of the Business and Tourism Society shall be to enable students within the Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management programs to socialize among their classmates and gain hands on, career related experience through event planning and educational activities.
Article III: Membership
- All Mount Saint Vincent University students registered within the Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality programs are eligible to become members of the Business and Tourism Society.
- A student shall be considered an active Business and Tourism Society member once they have attended one meeting.
Article IV: Membership Fees or Due
There shall be no membership fee for any student registered with the Business Administration or Tourism and Hospitality Management program at Mount Saint Vincent University.
Article V: Executive Officers
- Management and authority of the general membership and all standing committees shall be conducted by the Executive Committee
- The Executive Committee shall consist of the following positions:
President, Finance Executive, Marketing Executive and Management Executive
President
- Shall be the chief presiding officer and chairperson for both the Executive Committee and general meetings.
- Shall provide leadership and motivation within the group.
- Shall enforce the constitution and by-laws regarding Ratified Societies at Mount Saint Vincent University.
Finance Executive
- Shall be responsible for maintaining the Business and Tourism Society bank account.
- Shall be responsible for designating budgeted funds to the proper Business and Tourism Society divisions come event organization.
- Shall assist the President in creating a Business and Tourism Society budget for: the semester and each individual society event.
Marketing Executive
- Shall be responsible for promoting the objectives and mission of the Business and Tourism Society
- Shall be responsible for assisting students within the Business and Tourism Society to develop marketing campaigns for each individual society event.
- Shall be responsible for the upkeep up the society bulletin board, social media networks, society website, and the like.
Management Executive
- Shall be responsible for the organizing society members for general meetings and reserving necessary location and required items for such meetings.
- Shall be responsible for sending out email notifications to the Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management student body regarding upcoming general meetings and society events.
- Shall keep record of all Business and Tourism Society membership forms and contact information.
Article VII: Elections
- Each active member of the Business and Tourism Society shall be entitled to cast one vote for each position during the election of Executive Committee members.
- The winner of the election shall be determined by a majority vote.
- All active members of the Business and Tourism Society shall be informed of the date for the election of Executive Committee members and additional voting polls.
Article VIII: Meetings
- The Business and Tourism Society shall meet the first and third week of each month during the academic year.
- Meetings may be adjourned to a later date and time due to unforeseen events including but not limited to lack of member availability, conflicting with a prior societal commitment, statutory holiday, and the like.
- Meetings of the Business and Tourism Society shall be communicated to active members no less than one week prior to the determined date and time.
Article IX: Impeachment of Officers
- Executive Committee members shall hold office for a period of one academic year, beginning the first day of classes in September until the final day of classes in April of the following year.
Article X: Finance and Audit
- Funds of the Business and Tourism Society shall come from fundraising efforts, as well as sponsorship from the Students’ Union, and other donors approved by the Students’ Union.
- Signing officers of the Business and Tourism Society shall be the President, Finance Executive, and a pre-designated faculty member.
Article XI: Property
All surplus of monies and all property of the Business and Tourism Society shall be carried over to the incoming Executive Committee for the following academic year.
Article XII: Constitutional Amendment
- This constitution shall become effective upon approval by a majority of the Executive Committee and with approval of the designated Business and Tourism Society faculty advisors.
- Hereinafter, this constitution may be amended at a general meeting by a majority vote by all participating members.
- Proposed amendments must be forwarded to the Students’ Union to be included in the official Constitution recognized by the Vice President of Student Life.
- The effectiveness of this constitution shall be reviewed and evaluated at the beginning of each academic year.
